Integrated EHR and e-prescribing system streamlines medication reconciliation for community hospitals

Prognosis Health Information Systems, the leading provider of an enterprise electronic health record (EHR) and financial solution for rural and community hospitals, today announced a strategic alliance to integrate its EHR solution with software from DrFirst, the nation’s foremost e-prescribing and solutions platform provider. The combined technologies will become available in early 2013.

Through the partnership with DrFirst, Prognosis HIS’s EHR will connect to the SureScripts network to enable physicians to:
•Prescribe controlled substances electronically
•Transmit and fax prescription orders and renewals to local pharmacies including “mom and pop” community pharmacies, some of which are unable to support electronic prescriptions
•Enhance medication reconciliation upon patient admission and discharge
•Offer patients educational material about their medications
Additionally, Prognosis HIS will incorporate DrFirst’s e-prescribing application into its ambulatory electronic medical record (EMR).
