Jim Chen - DrFirst

James F. Chen
Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Founder

Mr. Chen founded DrFirst and serves as the CEO and chairman. He is a seasoned entrepreneur with a strong technology background and experience in starting and leading technology-related businesses. Mr. Chen successfully founded and served as the CEO of V-ONE Corporation, a NASDAQ-listed provider of virtual private networking (VPN) software that is used extensively in many industries, including government, financial services, healthcare, and automotive. Mr. Chen has been granted five U.S. patents on Internet security products. Prior to founding V-ONE, Mr. Chen worked for many years in increasingly senior positions at Intelsat and in the nuclear power industry. Mr. Chen received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech and received his M.S. in Computer Science from George Washington University.

Cam Deemer DrFirst

G. Cameron Deemer

Mr. Deemer serves as DrFirst’s president and brings more than 20 years of healthcare industry experience to this position. He joined DrFirst in 2004 as the director of product management before being appointed general manager in 2005 and president shortly thereafter. Since joining DrFirst, Mr. Deemer has played an instrumental role in formalizing and driving improved business processes, while developing new technology strategies to leverage the benefits of e-prescribing and other DrFirst platform services for providers, hospitals, payers, and other healthcare stakeholders. He has also been a strong proponent of promoting interoperability in the healthcare industry by sharing clinical data between systems. Prior to joining DrFirst, Mr. Deemer was assistant vice president of product management for PCS Health Systems/AdvancePCS and also led the e-prescribing and practice management product strategy for NDCHealth.

David Samuels DrFirst

David Samuels
Chief Financial Officer

David A. Samuels is a seasoned financial executive who brings to DrFirst more than 20 years of broad-based financial and business experience with publicly traded, venture-backed and privately held businesses, with revenues ranging from pre-revenue to over $1B. He has successfully completed more than $550M of debt and equity financings, including initial capitalizations and public offerings, and has served as a change agent leading initiatives in M&A, business restructuring, complex financings and operational improvements. He has extensive experience with technology focused businesses, working with company founders and board members to create and protect shareholder value. Mr. Samuels has held CFO roles in a variety of technology-driven businesses during the past 20 years. Mr. Samuels holds an MBA in Finance and Investments from The George Washington University, and a BS in Accounting, magna cum laude, from the University of Connecticut. Mr. Samuels is a recipient of the NVTC Greater Washington Technology CFO Award for Community Service, a finalist for CFO of the Year in the Emerging Growth Company category, and was named a CFO of the Year by the Washington Business Journal in July 2013.

Irene Froehlich - DrFirst

Irene Froehlich has been a pioneer in healthcare technology since 2000. She has helped shape the national reputation of DrFirst and been a significant part of developing the company’s strategy and brand since its inception. Irene has worn many hats at DrFirst over the years, spanning marketing, PR, sales, account management, corporate culture, and talent acquisition. She has a proven track record of creating, implementing, executing, and managing a diverse variety of initiatives supporting both B2B and B2C markets. As the Chief Communications Officer, Irene is responsible for ensuring that the leadership team upholds the vision, mission, values, purpose, culture, and beliefs of DrFirst both internally and externally. Irene is also responsible for creating and maintaining the quality of the DrFirst brand and voice through successful public relations and marketing efforts across the various stakeholders.

Mike McClure DrFirst

Mike McClure
Executive Vice President, Business Development

Business development leader with over 20 years of healthcare IT experience. Continues to help DrFirst establish a customer ecosystem that includes more than 700 hospitals and other acute care organizations, 300 EHR partners, and 45,000 ambulatory physician users. Prior experience at Lytec and NDCHealth.

George Pappas - DrFirst

George Pappas
Chief Customer Officer

George Pappas brings more than 35 years of IT experience across diverse industries to DrFirst, where he oversees the company’s operational functions, sales, and customer support efforts. Prior to joining DrFirst, Mr. Pappas served as the chief operating officer for Motionsoft, Inc., where he successfully re-built and realigned key business models and activities to drive revenue growth. Mr. Pappas previously held several C-Suite level positions in industries including:, higher education services, internet security, software, and financial services. He earned a B.S. in CS/MIS/International Management from Boston University.

Zach Fox DrFirst

Zachary Fox
Executive Vice President, Partners

Zach Fox has led continuous growth, in mature and new IT market ventures, for 25+ years in various business development and executive leadership roles. Over the past 18 years, he has focused on Healthcare IT, leading teams serving providers, hospitals, payers, and clinical solution vendors. As VP of Payers, Zach managed efforts to pioneer national e-prescribing strategy and rollouts with large payers, establishing DrFirst as the leader in medication management programs to payer-provider networks. In his current role as EVP and GM of the Partner Division, Zach built the business to over 300 EHR, HIS, and clinical-solution vendor customers that serve over 300,000 providers and their patients. His team collaborates with customers delivering provider and patient innovations for medication management, point-of-encounter, and secure communications as an integrated part of their HIT systems. In his ever-elusive spare time, Zach serves in leadership roles for community non-profit organizations and loves getting into the mountains with his wife, four kids, and two dogs.

Luis Angel - DrFirst

Luis Angel
President, Consumer Solutions

As president of the Consumer Solutions Division, Mr. Angel is focused on building innovative solutions that empower patients to become active members of their care team along with the ability to control their own, or loved one’s, health care information. For almost 20 years, Luis has successfully led teams around the globe to develop consumer innovations in health information technology. Prior to joining DrFirst, Luis founded GetMyRx, which alerted patients when new prescriptions were written and allowed them to schedule a pick-up. He has also led several consumer innovation teams at Novartis. Luis holds an M.B.A. from INSEAD and an undergraduate degree in Biological Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Linda Fischer - DrFirst

Linda Fischer
Senior Vice President, Care Collaboration

Linda Fischer joined DrFirst after having served 21 years as a VP and CIO for Huntington Hospital where she played a key role in the implementation of an EMR and successful attestations through MU Stage 2. Ms. Fischer is a long-time member of HIMSS, CHIME, and GNYHA, and is a founding member of the CHIME Opioid Task Force and DrFirst Opioid Task Force. In 2009, she received the CPEHR Certification from CCHIT as well as a “Friend of Nursing” MAGNET award. Ms. Fischer served on the original Board of Directors in the creation and implementation of the Long Island HIE, known now as HealthEx.

Kunal Agarwal - DrFirst

Over a decade of leadership experience in software development, EMR/HIS integration, and product solutions. Industry advisor on various vendor strategic partnerships, evaluated and optimized customer collaborations, and implementations to drive sales to optimum revenue growth. Worked for Epic, Lipix (now Healthix), NYeC, and GNYHA/CCLC.

Andrew Burns DrFirst

Andrew Burns
Chief Growth Officer

In his role as Chief Growth Officer, Andrew is charged with the strategic and commercial growth of DrFirst’s digital solutions. Over the past 20 years, Andrew’s leadership has resulted in more than tenfold annual revenue growth. Prior to joining DrFirst, Andrew held C-level positions at some of the industry’s most successful companies, including Epocrates, Sermo, and Gobiquity Mobile Health. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Arizona – Eller College of Management, and an undergraduate degree in Political Science from University of Western Ontario in Canada.

Colin Bana, MD DrFirst

Colin Banas, MD, MSHA 
Chief Medical Officer

Colin Banas was an Internal Medicine Hospitalist and the former Chief Medical Information Officer for VCU Health System in Richmond, VA prior to stepping down after 15 fulfilling years to pursue consulting. He is proud to have testified before the U.S. Senate and the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) on the topic of Health IT and the Meaningful Use Program and is a former Health IT Fellow for the ONC. His interests center on the role of big-data and analytics on patient outcomes and on novel forms of Clinical Decision Support, those that are outside of the realm of traditional rules and alerts, and include real-time dashboarding and intuitive usability designs. He also helped spearhead the VCU effort to participate in the Open Notes initiative, where patients have access to their clinical documentation in real time. In 2017 Dr. Banas was humbled to receive the HIMSS-AMDIS award for Physician Executive of the Year from his peers.
