DrFirst’s MedHx Tool Improves Patient Safety, Clinical Outcomes

November 10, 2014

Grand Rapids, MI and Rockville, MD

Great Lakes Health Connect (GLHC), Michigan’s largest Health Information Exchange (HIE), is now making available to its more than 120 member hospitals and their physician providers DrFirst’s MedHxSM

MedHx will provide GLHC participating providers with access to a rich stream of data producing an in-depth picture of their patients’ medication histories. MedHx delivers a comprehensive medication history, including industry-standard resources for medication claims and pharmacy fill data. As a result, the medication reconciliation process is faster and more accurate; encouraging improved patient safety and better clinical outcomes.

In addition to industry-standard data, MedHx also includes DrFirst’s proprietary Wide Area Patient Search (WAPS) data network. The WAPS network aggregates incremental prescribing data from DrFirst’s network of providers, Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) partners, and hosted payer data.

“DrFirst’s MedHx tool simply provides better, richer and more comprehensive data in Michigan than any other service on the market,” said GLHC Executive Director Doug Dietzman. “We are focused on bringing the best services possible to Michigan and our members. Our decision to incorporate MedHx functionality into our Medicity platform is a reflection of this commitment.”

“Great Lakes Health Connect is dedicated to providing innovative health technology solutions to Michigan providers,” said G. Cameron Deemer, president of DrFirst. “By offering MedHx to its HIE members, GLHC ensures that physicians within their system can save time and avoid errors that may result from incomplete patient medication histories, and also lays a foundation for flexible and comprehensive services in the future.”

Great Lakes Health Connect and DrFirst went live in October with Spectrum Health Big Rapids and Spectrum Health Ludington hospitals. These sites will be using the MedHx technology in their Emergency Room, Ambulatory Surgery, MSP, Critical Care Unit, Obstetric, and Inpatient Rehabilitation departments.
