January 4, 2008 – Rockville, MD 20852 — DrFirst, the leader in electronic prescribing and medication reconciliation, and Medical Information Technology, Inc. (MEDITECH), the leader in the health care information systems industry, have announced a strategic alliance to integrate DrFirst’s medication history and e-prescribing technologies with MEDITECH’s hospital-focused Client/Server and MAGIC applications. The agreement will provide hospitals with comprehensive patient medication history information as well as electronic prescribing of discharge and outpatient medications.

“DrFirst has a solid reputation for providing quality, innovative solutions, and understanding physicians’ needs regarding technology,” said Hoda Sayed-Friel, vice president of marketing at MEDITECH. “We are proud to announce this alliance and look forward to working with DrFirst to achieve our clients’ strategic goals.”

Under the agreement, MEDITECH will integrate DrFirst’s Rcopia Engine Services with the CPOE software included in MEDITECH’s Health Care Information Systems (HCIS). Through this integration, hospitals will have immediate on-line access to patient medication histories to streamline the medication reconciliation process and transition patients between care environments. Similarly, the integration will provide hospitals with health plan information such as drug formularies while enabling electronic prescribing between hospital and pharmacy. The new functionality is intended to improve patient safety, quality of care, and hospital workflows.

“DrFirst is excited to work with MEDITECH to bring electronic prescribing and medication reconciliation to physicians in the hospital care setting,” said G. Cameron Deemer, President, DrFirst, Inc. “Between our integration with MEDITECH and the integration we offer with MEDITECH partner LSS Data Systems for the ambulatory setting, our alliance will enable a new level of coordinated care for MEDITECH hospital clients.”

The technology will be commercially available in 2008, and will be launched publicly at HIMSS 2008 in February.
