DrFirst.com, Inc. Announces Prince George's Hospital Center to Begin Using Rcopia Web and Palm | DrFirst
June 5, 2002
ROCKVILLE, MD, June 5, 2002 – DrFirst.com, Inc. announced today that it is has signed an agreement with Dimensions Healthcare System to provide Rcopia, its PDA and web-based electronic prescribing service, to Prince George’s Hospital Center’s Internal Medical Residency Program. The residents and faculty at the Internal Medicine outpatient practice in Lanham, Maryland will use Rcopia to create, send, and print prescriptions to pharmacies via the Internet.
Dimensions Healthcare System sought an e-prescribing application to improve patient care and reduce the inefficiencies in the prescription writing process. After an extensive evaluation of the various applications in the marketplace, Dimensions Healthcare System chose Rcopia because of its superior functionality and unique user-defined role access. By assigning privileges based on the person’s role in the practice, residents and staff can create prescriptions on the PDA and the attending physician can approve the prescription wherever there is an Internet connection, including the hospital, home or points in between.
“We are truly excited to be able to use this technology,” said Dr. Caroline Samuels, the Rcopia project lead at Dimensions Healthcare System. “This is the only application that best met all our requirements, including performing drug-drug interaction checking and allergy checking. The ability to cross-cover all our patients within the group is also very important to us, as is the ability to access the system from a PDA. None of the other available products had all these features.”
“We feel that DrFirst offers a unique solution to Prince George’s Hospital Center’s Internal Medicine Residency Program needs. Rcopia takes into consideration the workflow requirements for both the resident and the faculty, seamlessly allowing both the ability to use the system,” explained John Bartos, Vice President of Business Development for DrFirst.
Rcopia is DrFirst’s electronic prescription management system that allows physicians to print, fax, or send any prescription. Rcopia operates on multiple handheld devices, desktops, laptops, or wireless PCs. Rcopia easily interfaces with practice management systems that communicate via the HL7 standard for medical information, and can be used offline or online through wireless WAN or wireless LAN. Rcopia can be used alone or with DrFirst’s suite of products including charge capture, electronic medical records, practice management information system, and secure messaging.
DrFirst also provides the industries best secure messaging platform for physicians, hospitals and EMR/EHR vendors.
