Black Book 2013 ranks DrFirst #1 in standalone e-prescribing based on industry survey of 250,000 health IT users nationwide

DrFirst, a pioneer of innovative healthcare software solutions and services, has been recognized by Black Book as the nation’s #1 vendor for standalone electronic prescribing systems in the 2013 State of the e-Prescribing Industry report. The report is based on a survey of more than 250,000 e-health technology users conducted by international market research firm Brown-Wilson Group and published in their annual Black Book Rankings®.
Black Book ranked DrFirst the #1 Standalone E-prescribing Vendor, based on DrFirst’s Rcopia® e-prescribing software achieving the top overall client satisfaction score of 96%. Black Book also recognized the best EHR/Standalone e-RX Product Partnerships, and in this category Rcopia is the e-prescribing partner for eight of the top 10 finishers, including Greenway Medical who won the category in partnership with DrFirst.

In addition to e-prescribing of non-controlled and controlled substances (in conjunction with the company’s EPCS GoldSM software), Rcopia users have access to an array of additional functionality, including: ordering and receiving lab tests and radiology results; patient medication adherence and compliance reporting; patient education documentation; patient co-pay and prescription coupons; and HIPAA-compliant practice and patient secure messaging. According to Brown-Wilson, in 2012 approximately 60% of practices nationwide utilized e-prescribing and 43% of all prescriptions dispensed were routed electronically, including 529 million new e-prescriptions and 98 million e-renewals. Participating in e-Prescribing and EHR initiatives next year could save a physician $19,000 in avoided penalties according to the American Academy of Family Physicians. The report estimates 100,000 physicians and other health professionals are at risk for being hit with Medicare electronic prescribing program penalties next year, and anticipates the penalties to increase significantly thereafter.
