What a Year! DrFirst Achieves Historic Milestones in 2010
DrFirst, Inc., will mark 2010 as one of the most innovative and groundbreaking years in its 11-year history. The year is distinguished by the company’s participation in the first DEA-approved electronic prescribing of a controlled substance, the ONC-ATCB certification of its newest product Rcopia-MU (Meaningful Use), the addition of over 50 new “Open Borders” partners, the 100% success rate in assisting over 20 partners to achieve various major industry certifications, and the recognition of DrFirst’s commitment to quality through several awards and industry rankings.
First DEA-approved E-prescribing of a Controlled Substance
In June of 2010, DrFirst publicly demonstrated its controlled substance electronic prescribing (e-prescribing) program and the feasibility of securely transmitting electronic prescriptions at the 2010 AHRQ Annual Health IT Grantee and Contractor meeting in Washington, DC. The presentation demonstrated a pilot program funded by a grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), undertaken by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), DrFirst, Emdeon/eRxNetworks and Berkshire Health Systems, Inc. under a waiver from the DEA. DrFirst’s successful transmission of Schedule II-V medications under the waiver granted to MDPH for this pilot was followed by the issuance of a DEA interim final rule based on the security features demonstrated by DrFirst.
CCHIT-eRx and ONC-ATCB Certification
In November 2010, DrFirst announced that Rcopia‐MU, Version 3, was 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as an EHR Module on November 4, 2010, by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®), an ONC‐ATCB, in accordance with the applicable eligible provider certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (Certification number CC‐1112‐401680‐1). The 2011/2012 criteria support the Stage 1 and Stage 2 meaningful use measures required to qualify eligible providers and hospitals for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Also in 2010, DrFirst became one of only two vendors to receive CCHIT‐eRx certification for 2011 and 2012.
