Partnership will Enable Secure, Mobile Access to HIE Data and Streamline Communications and Data Sharing between Providers

September 19, 2016

Rockville, MD and Norman, OK – DrFirst, a pioneer in healthcare SaaS solutions, and Coordinated Care Oklahoma (CCO) today announced a partnership to integrate Backline®, DrFirst’s secure, HIPAA-compliant communication and collaboration tool, into CCO’s extensive health information exchange (HIE).

CCO will utilize the Backline platform to securely connect the CCO healthcare community and streamline patient care and data sharing between providers. The integration will enable independent health providers, hospitals, long-term care facilities and pharmacies on CCO’s network to establish and maintain secure, HIPAA-compliant, real-time communications—including data exchange—via encrypted messaging and within the fully integrated platform.

This marks the first integration between DrFirst’s Backline and an HIE.

“Secure communications has evolved by an order of magnitude,” said G. Cameron Deemer, president of DrFirst. “This is now a services platform, beyond text messaging, serving as a practical, stable, secure form of healthcare interoperability. Our partnership with CCO is very exciting, and a great example of how clinically-rooted secure messaging applications can unlock even more value from HIEs, electronic health records, and pharmacy systems.”

Backline provides an always-on platform for sending and receiving important patient data needed to support critical care decisions. Pulling HIE data into Backline’s Patient-Centered Chat gives healthcare professionals the ability to work where they want, how they want, and, most importantly, on whatever device they want without compromising the security or integrity of patient data.

Real-time, electronic transfer of patient data between care providers in a fully HIPAA-compliant manner improves coordination of care, transfers of care, and overall provider workflow. Encrypted messaging streamlines patient care and data sharing.

“As a health information organization touching every setting across a population of over 4.8 million patients, it has become of vital importance to implement solutions that streamline and enhance in care coordination and hand-off processes,” said Rodolfo Alvarez del Castillo, MD, CCO network director.
